Why can't I get my JD YA6 cylinder to install into an AD-Series lock?

The JD YA6 tailpiece is intentionally designed such that the tailpiece cannot be installed at the same time as the cylinder.

Interchangeable cylinders assume that the lever and taipiece is installed prior to the cylinder installation.

If a installer tries to install the tailpiece, cylinder and lever at the same time, The position of the tailpiece blocks the lever catch push pin and will not allow the lever to seat fully when the cylinder is installed using its Control Key.

Follow these steps to install a JD YA6 cylinder ... (also see the installation instruction below)
  • Install the lever, ensure the lever is fully seated and the lever catch is holding the lever on the spindle of the spring cage
  • Insert the cylinder tailpiece using needle nose pliers, ensure the tailpiece fully seats and engages into the lock and the visible ridge of the tailpiece is in the vertical orientation
  • Using the cylinder Control Key, insert the cylinder into the mounted lever, ensure the cylinder engages the ridge of the tailpiece and the cylinder is fully seated flush with the face of the lever
  • Turn and remove the Control Key
  • Using an access key, test the cylinder in the lock to ensure proper mechanical key use and operation
