Why would a 98/9927 bottom rod/latch drag?

The following could cause the bottom latch on 98/9927 exit device to drag.

  • The bottom rod is too long. Adjust bottom rod per the instructions.
  • Top latch controls the bottom latch.  Make sure top latch stays retracted when push bar is depressed, if not, adjust top rod per instructions.
  • Make sure device is installed in the proper location. See template for device location.
  • Defective top latch could cause the bottom latch not to stay retracted since the top latch controls the bottom latch.
