Why should you use the LX switch with an ALK being used in Von Duprin surface vertical rod devices?

An RX switch would only trigger the ALK Alarm Kit when the pushpad of the device is depressed.

Surface Vertical Rod (SVR) Devices such as the 2227, 33/3527A, 98/9927, and 98/9957 devices could be operated by moving the rods directly instead of operating the push pad which would not trigger an RX switch, but would trigger an LX switch.

Von Duprin recommends either;

  • Use an LX switch on these SVR devices listed above.
    Note that using a trim from the pull side would trigger the LX switch.
  • Use an RX switch with Rod Guards to cover the rods.
