What does the message "ID temporarily invalid" mean when it displays on a biometric hand reader?

Our biometric hand readers have a limitation on how many times you can try an unsuccessful  hand verification. This is similar to secure computer/ system logins that kick you out after a certain number of tries. Biometric hand readers will display the "ID temporarily invalid" message when you have exceeded the 'number of tries' allowed.

To reset the 'number of tries' for your ID, or to able able to verify again, have someone else do a valid ID & hand verification at the same reader, then try your ID and hand again.

The default 'number of tries' for a biometric HandKey is 3 times; the default 'number of tries' for a biometric HandPunch is 6.

On a HandKey biometric reader, you can adjust the 'number of tries' at the HandKey reader by getting into password menu 5 -> reject threshold (press 'Yes', then hit 'enter' ) -> # of tries .
     - In HandNet for Windows you can adjust this setting by clicking on the globe ('network') icon, then right-click on the name of your reader -> properties -> 'settings' tab -> adjust the 'Number of Tries' on the right-hand side.
     - In HandNet Lite, you can adjust the 'number of tries' under the Configuration tab; choose the correct network that your reader is in; in the gray box underneath that, select the reader you want to edit from the drop-down menu (click on down-arrow) -> Edit selected reader  -> adjust 'Number of Tries' in the left column, then click on 'Accept Settings' (at the top)

On a HandPunch biometric reader, you can adjust the 'number of tries' under password menu in your Time & Attendance software application; please contact your Time & Attendance software dealer for details on where to adjust that setting in their software.
