If this is a fire rated opening you must use the Auxiliary Fire Latch Kit to maintain your Fire Rating. If not fire rated simply omit the bottom rod but be aware that your opening is now only latching at the top of the frame and is not as secure as using both top and bottom rods. The prep for the Aux Fire latch should be done by the door manufacturer to hold the UL listing of the door.
