Can the CD and EL options be provided on the same 98/99 rim or vertical rod exit device?

There is not enough room for both Cylinder Dogging (CD) and Electric Latch Retraction (EL or QEL) options because they both try to occupy the same space in the device.

The dogging mechanism for cylinder dogging (CD) is located at the same place just beyond the push pad that the solenoid (EL) or motor (QEL) for the electric latch retraction would be located.

Here are a couple of options:

  1. Change the device to HD-QEL.  This will use hex key dogging and not cylinder dogging and this would use a motor to electrically retract the latch rather than a solenoid.
  2. Install a key switch on the wall near the door to engage the EL or QEL option when they want to hold the latch retracted electrically.
  3. For 98/99 Rim and Vertical Rod/Cable devices, Special Dogging (SD) can be used with the EL or QEL options to put cylinder in the center case (head) of the  device to mechanically hold the centecase in the retracted condition.
