How to adjust the 9847/9947 or 9848/9948 rod adjustment?

See the link to a video instruction, Concealed Vertical Rod Exit Device Adjustment.

Manual steps:

  1. Open door and release top latch bolt by inserting a screw driver in the hole at the top of the door.
  2. Loosen the bottom locking screw located on the face of the bottom adjustment block.
  3. Disconnect bottom vertical rod by removing the bottom adjustment screw.
  4. Loosen top locking screw from the face of the top adjustment block.
  5. Rotate top adjusting screw clockwise until top latch bolt is fully extended.
  6. Check top latch bolt for deadlocking (try to push the latch bolt down, it should not push in)
  7. Turn top locking screw in. Do not over-tighten.
  8. Depress the pushbar and release.
  9. Make sure top latch bolt stays retracted flush with the latch case.
  10. Install bottom adjusting screw through bottom rod
  11. With top latch bolt still retracted, adjust the bottom rod so the latch bolt clears the floor and the bottom strike.
  12. Turn bottom locking screw in.  Do not over-tighten.
  13. Check device operation by opening and closing the door several times from the outside.
Redo adjustment procedure if:
  1. Top latch bolt is not held retracted
  2. Bottom latch bolt does not clear floor and bottom strike
