Why is there a hole in the trim?

The hole in the trim allows the Emergency Unlock Tool to be used to unlock the privacy locking mechanism when the FC21 Combined Interior lock is configured for privacy functionality.  For the best aesthetic appearance, Schlage recommends to install the lock such that the holes are located below the knob/lever.  For the FC172 Non-Turning function, the trim has a hole to match the aesthetics of the FC21 Combined Interior trim.
