Why is my new lock (J40, U40, and V40) not locking the same as my old (Dexter) lock?

Due to product updates, the inside thumbturn can be rotated before installation to lock differently.

To adjust the position of the thumb turn:

1. Remove the inside assembly (door knob/lever). Pull straight back without rotating the door knob or lever as this will change the direction of the thumb turn. 
2. Rotate the inside thumb turn manually 180 degrees. The thumb turn should now be in a different orientation (vertical to horizontal, or horizontal to vertical whichever your preference). 
3.Reinstall the inside assembly making sure not to rotate thumbturn during installation.
