Why does my cylindrical dead latch fall into the strike?

The dead latch will fall into the strike when the door is not prepped correctly, commonly the door over rotates and the deadlatch falls into the strike.  This can cause the latch to bind when trying to retract with knob/lever. This bind can cause internal damage in the chassis of the lock or to the latch itself.

Adjust the strike prep / door prep accordingly to avoid dead latch falling into the strike.
