Why can't I adjust the spring force on my 1261 closer?

If the spring force adjustment is set to the very minimum force, the internal spring adjustment plate may rest in a safety area of the threaded spring adjustment rod. Simply open the door about a foot or so to engage the closer spring, and turn the adjustment screw about 6 turns clockwise and adjustment will be restored.
