What would cause a 4040SE not to hold the door open?

A 4040SE would not hold the door open if it has :

  1. No Voltage or Improper Voltage. Check that the track has proper voltage going to it (24V AC/DC or 120V AC).
  2. If 120 volts is supplied to a 24 volt solenoid, the solenoid will be damaged and the track will have to be replaced.
  3. If 24 volts is going to a 120 volt solenoid, the the solenoid won't have enough power to hold the door.  Applying the correct voltage should resolve the problem.

If the voltage appears to be correct, you may have a damaged or defective solenoid assembly and the track will have to be replaced.
