What is the difference between Vandlgard and Break away levers?

Break away levers are designed with a break-away point on the lever that will cause the lever to break off with excessive torque. This break away lever cannot be reset and will need to be replaced.

Vandlgard prevents damage to internal lock components caused by excessive force from hitting or standing on the lever to gain access. When the lock is locked, the lever will rotate in the downward direction and will return to its horizontal position without engaging the latch. Once the lock is unlocked the lever will be able to retract the latch.

The Schlage ND series is available with Break away levers on the following functions: 

Exterior levers

Closed, KIL, FSIC, SFIC): ND12, ND12EL/EU, ND30, ND50, ND53, ND60 (for both keyed and closed levers), ND66, ND70, ND72, ND73, ND75, ND80, ND80EL/EU,
ND82, ND91, ND92, ND93, ND94, ND95, ND96, ND96EL/EU, ND97
Interior breakaway levers must be ordered via the following process – Lock(s) are ordered Less Lever for the interior lever and breakaway lever(s) are ordered separately Applicable functions include: ND66, ND70X80, ND72, ND82

Vandlgard is available with the ND, L9000, and LM9300 series locks.
