What is the difference between the FE and DE-Series frames

A Double Egress frame is a double door frame prepared to receive two single-acting doors swinging in opposite directions (both doors are) the same hand. These openings are installed in cross corridor applications and used for traffic control.

DE-Series Double Egress Frame are unique to Steelcraft and are used in corridor application when clear opening width is a major concern and corridor width is limited. DE-Series frames are used when ADA requirements dictate minimum clear opening width and the overall the corridor width cannot be increased to accommodate the larger overall frames sizes.

1. DE-Series frames iinclude single rabbet hinge jambs of a different jamb depth than the head
2. DE-Series frames allow the use of swing clear hinge or pocket pivot hinge:
   • Without the need for special face dimensions
   • Without requiring special anchors
3. DE-Series frames maximizes clear opening width without increasing over all frame width
4. DE-Series frame are used in stud walls construction, because the hinge jambs are different jamb depth than the head jamb depth, they require different stud sizes in walls vs. headers.

The FE-Series Double Egress Frame, are conventional double egress designed frames used in corridor application when clear opening width is not a major concern and corridor width is limited. FE-Series are the most commonly used double egress frames and accommodate clear openings (ADA) widths when the overall corridor width is not an issue.

1. FE-Series frames include double rabbet hinge jambs of the same jamb depth as the head.
2. Standard FE-Series frames are not designed for swing clear hinge or pocket pivot hinge:
   • Special profile (special face dimensions) modifications are required
   • Special anchors are required
3. To accommodate to maximizes clear opening width the overall FE-Series frame width will increase.
4. FE-Series frame used in masonry and stud wall constructions.
