What is the difference between the Falcon M and MA series mortise locks?

M is discontinued and replaced by the MA.

Here are some of the major differences between the M and MA-Series.

  • Lever mounting post holes -  Locations have changed on door template.  (12 and 6 o'clock for M lock, MA lock is approx 1 and 7 depending on handing).  If upgrading to the MA lock, Escutcheon and Rose plate will cover changes to the door.
  • Re-handing procedure - M lock requires taking lock case apart and moving internal pieces.  MA lock changes handing by moving screws to one side of the case (similar to L9000)
  • Trim design -  The trim is not backwards or forwards compatible between the locks.
  • Inside lever - The inside lever on the M series has an allen head screw.  The MA does not have this feature.
  • Cylinder cams - The old cam will not work in the MA lock.  Information on the MA cams can be found here
  • Lock chassis - The MA lock chassis is a completely different design than the M.  None of the parts are backwards compatible.
