What is the difference between a 5547L, a NY5547L, and a NYCA5547L?

Panic Rated Metal Door Applications

• The standard 5547L x 376L Panic Exit Device for Metal Doors has a minimum Lever height of 49 7/8" Above Finished Floor (AFF).
• The NY5547L x 376L Panic Exit Device for Metal Doors was created using a different top rod to allow a minimum Lever height of 45 13/16" AFF.
  Note that this device was referred to as a New York Special in the past because it was first developed as a special adaptation for an application in New York, but is not unique to New York.  The NY stayed in the nomenclature when it was made a standard option.
  A new top rod would be required to convert a standard 5547-L x 376L Panic Exit Device for Metal Doors into a NY5547L x 376L device based on the door height.

  -  959945-00: NY5547 TOP ROD 8'-10'
• The NYCA5547L x 376L (or NY5547L @ 38"CL for California) Panic Exit Device for Metal Doors was created using different top and bottom rods to lower the Exit Device Centerline to 38" so the Lever can be located at 44" AFF to accommodate California requirements.
  A complete Rod Set (top and bottom) would be necessary to convert a 5547L x 376L Panic Exit Device for Metal Doors or a NY5547L Panic Exit Device for Metal Doors into a NYCA5547L x 376L based on the door height.

  -  959947-00: NY5547 TOP ROD 6'8"-8'0"-38" CL
• The 376L Lever Control is the same for all 3 of these versions (5547L, NY5547L, and NYCA5547L).

Fire Rated Metal Door Applications

• The 5547L-F x 371L Fire Rated Exit Device has a standard Lever location at 40 7/8".
  Therefore, there is no NY or NYCA version of this device.

Wood Door Applications - Panic and Fire Rated

• The 5547WDC-L x 376WDC-L Panic and 5547WDC-L-F x 376WDC-L have a standard Lever height of 45 13/16" AFF.
• There is no NY version of the 5547WDC-L Panic or 5547WDC-L-F device.
• As a special (as of 9/30/25), Von Duprin can build a CA5547WDC-L x 376WDC-L Panic or CA5547WDC-L x 376WDC-L which lowers the Device CL to 38" to allow the Lever height of 44" to accommodate California requirements.
  A complete Rod Set (top and bottom) would be necessary to convert a 5547WDC-L x 376WDC-L Panic or 5547WDC-L-F x 376WDC-L Fire Rated Exit Device into the CA5547WDC-L x 376WDC-L.
  Since these devices are still special, order by description “SPECIAL ROD SET FOR CA5547WDC-L” and include the door height.
