As of Jan 10th, 2022 Schlage began supplying an improved 613 finish that provides a more consistent appearance among our locks.
The Oil Rubbed Bronze finish is achieved by immersing the metal in a special heated solution that darkens the metal to a desired degree, after which oil is applied and rubbed in. When dried, the excess oil is removed. The appearance will change based on environmental conditions and the wear from usage. The areas of the lock that come into contact with your hand will "polish up" and expose the base bronze color, while untouched area's will continue to maintain a darkened appearance with age.
Please note that ANSI/BHMA A156.18 (American National Standard for Materials and Finishes) categorizes oil rubbed bronze finish as a "Category B" finish. The aforementioned standard states: "Category B finishes are those that are unstable and that vary when applied to different alloys and forms of base material. These finishes shall be compatible with the BHMA match plates, but these finishes cannot and do not match from one alloy or form of material to the next, and from one manufacturer to the next."
