What is a Facility Code?

A site or facility code is a set of information used in a magnetic stripe, proximity or smart card to increase security. When presenting a credential to a reader the site code as well as the encoded id will be read to verify if the credential holder has access. In a system where the facility code is used; if either the site code or the encoded id is not in the system then the card holder will not be granted access.

The advantage of the facility code is isolation from other systems that might has a similar range of Badge ids. The facility will one or more facility codes on their cards helping to distinguish them from the other sites.

Example::
Site 1)  Fac 222; Badge id 347801

Site 2)  Fac 654; Badge id 347801
