What if I cannot insert my privacy pin into the hole?

If you have trouble inserting the privacy pin, check to see if the lock is installed properly, according to the following images and descriptions.

  1. First, remove the trim from the interior side of the door, so that you have a clear view of the interior side of the lock.  See this article for help removing trim.
  2. Confirm that the interior chassis is installed on the interior side of the door.  When installed, the interior chassis is easily identified by the Phillips head screws.  If the interior chassis installed on the wrong side of the door, correct the installation before proceeding.
  3. Once you've confirmed that the interior chassis isntalled on the interior side of the door, follow the instructions in this article.
