What happens when a locked L/LV9000 lever is rotated past the stop?

The L/LV9000 levers will rotate as normal when locked.  Once the lever is rotated to about 45 degrees the lever hits a stop.  At that point if the lever is forcefully rotated past the stop the L/LV spindle will shear at 60 to 72 ft lbs requiring replacement of the spindle.
