If a vertical rod device, verify the vertical rods are adjusted properly and there is not a bind at the strikes.
Make sure the push bar is not binding at the pushbar guides or any other mechanical bind.
Check to be sure the device is not overly tight to the face of the door.
Remove the rods from the device and then test QEL. If operation is smooth, then the issue is isolated to the rods.
Verify shock absorber is functioning normally.
