What are the standard door and frame clearances?

To determine Actual Door Size, the following values are subtracted from nominal door size (frame opening/order size)

Actual Door Size: The largest measured width by height of the door leaf as manufactured. Equal to the nominal door size minus design clearance. Also referred to as Net Door Size.

Standard Door Heights:

  1. All doors - Height downsizing:
      • total 7/8"; 1/8" top, 3/4" bottom
      • Exception H-series total 1/2"; 1/8" top, 3/8" bottom

Standard Door Width Downsizing:

  1. Bevel edge doors - Width downsizing:
    1. Single door, active leaf and inactive leaf with astragal
      • Total 3/16"
    2. Wide inactive leaf without astragal
      • Total 3/32"
  2. Square edge doors - Width downsizing:
    1. Single door, active leaf and inactive leaf with astragal
      • Total 7/32"
    2. Wide inactive leaf without astragal
      • Total 1/8"
