What are the L9000 care and maintenance instructions?

L-Series lock mechanisms are designed for durability and seldom need servicing.  During assembly, those points of contact that require lubrication for ease of operation are given an application of high quality petroleum based grease.  Additionally, a small amount of Fin Lube TF (Interflon) is applied to the pin tumblers during assembly of the cylinder unit.

Lock Case Maintenance

Schlage does not have a recommended maintenance schedule for the L-Series.  The locks are tested to meet ANSI 156.13, which require a minimum of 800,000 cycles without failure; during the testing phase the locks are never disassembled to perform maintenance of any kind.  If disassembly of the lock mechanism is necessary our Service Manual shows the recommended lubrication specification that should be followed to ensure problem free operation.  Attached for your convenience is the required documentation from the Service Manual regarding lubrication of the contact points.

Cylinder Maintenance

Electronic contact cleaner can be used to clean the cylinder and then Schlage recommends lubricating the cylinder with Fin Lube TF (from Interflon). Fin Lube TF is available in an aerosol format.

Finish Maintenance

Clear protective or other organic finishes should be periodically cleaned with a mild, non-abrasive soap and buffed lightly with a clean cloth.  Non-clear coated finishes should not be cleaned with soaps or solvents.
