What are the electrical requirements for the Schlage L9000 lock?
Applies to L9090EL/EU, L9091EL/EU, L9092EL/EU, L9093EL/EU, L9094EL/EU, L9095EL/EU
The Schlage electrified L-Series wiring diagram can be found here and the requirements are listed below. Instruction sheet P516-871.
Voltage: 12 or 24VDC (maximum 26.4 V, minimum 10.8 V) - DC voltage only
Peak current: 1.0 amp @ 12VDC; 0.4 amp @ 24VDC
Holding current: 0.010 amps
Operating temperature: 32°F to +120°F (-0°C to 49°C)
Maximum Relative Humidity 93%
IMPORTANT! Connection of L9090, L9091, L9092, L9093, L9094 or L9095 electrified mortise locks to a supply circuit containing electromagnetic devices (i.e., solenoid based) is not recommended. If used, the resulting transient voltages could damage the lock. The transient voltage must be carefully suppressed at the equipment producing it before connecting the lock to the same circuit. A varistor rated at 35 V (peak recurrent) may be used for transient voltage protection.
The Schlage electrified L-Series wiring diagram can be found here and the requirements are listed below.
24VACor 24VDC (maximum 26V, minimum 22V)
Peak current 1.3 amps at 5 to 10 second intervals
Holding current 0.135 amps between peak intervals
Continuous duty solenoid
Operating temperature: maximum +140 deg F, minimum -22 deg F
Intermittent operation of electrified locks can occur when the power supplies are not sufficient to provide the recommended amps (2 amps) per lock.
Over time, insufficient current draw can weaken the the solenoid preventing it to operate normally. At the same time, excessive voltage/current can cause overheating that can damage the solenoid.
