What are the different door cores available?

The five most common cores are honeycomb, polystyrene, polyurethane, steel stiffened, and temperature rise.

  1. Honeycomb core doors are used for interior and exterior openings where high thermal insulation is not required.
    • Steelcraft L-Series - standard core
    • Steelcraft SL-Series - standard core
    • Steelcraft H-Series - standard core
    • Steelcraft A14-Series - standard core
    • Fire rated (without temperature rise) as an option
    • This is a laminated door construction
  2. Polystyrene core doors are suitable for applications requiring an U-Factor or R-value (a measure of insulating performance).
    • Steelcraft L-Series - optional core
    • Steelcraft SL-Series - optional core
    • Steelcraft H-Series - optional core
    • Steelcraft CE-Series - standard core
    • Steelcraft HE-Series - standard core
    • Fire rated (without temperature rise) as an option
    • This is a laminated door construction
  3. Polyurethane core doors are suitable for exterior openings in cold climates.
    • Steelcraft L-Series - optional core
    • Steelcraft H-Series - optional core
    • Not available fire rated
    • This is a laminated door construction
  4. Steel stiffened core doors feature steel ribs in the interior of the door and are used where durability and security are important.
    • Steelcraft B-Series - standard core
    • Steelcraft H-Series - optional core
    • Fire rates (without temperature rise) as an option
    • This is a welded door construction
  5. Temperature Rise core doors are used when a fire resistance rating is required to retard the transfer of heat from one area to another (a stairwell, for instance).
    • Steelcraft T-Series- standard core
    • Steelcraft TH-Series- standard core
    • Fire rated with temperature rise
    • This is a laminated door construction
