Troubleshooting Schlage Encode Lock Delay: Fix 30-40 Second Latency Issues

Are you experiencing a 30-40 second delay before your Schlage Encode lock responds to app commands, locks, or unlocks? These latency issues are often caused by cloud connectivity problems, Wi-Fi interruptions, or firmware bugs. Follow this step-by-step troubleshooting guide to resolve the issue and restore seamless operation to your smart lock.

Common Causes of Schlage Encode Lock Latency:

  • Cloud Connectivity Issues:
The lock may lose its connection to the Schlage cloud, causing the app to switch to Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) mode, which is slower.
  • Wi-Fi Connection Problems:
Poor signal strength, offline routers, or slow internet speeds can disrupt communication between the lock and the app.
  • Firmware Bugs:
Software issues within the lock can occasionally cause delayed responses.

How to Fix Schlage Encode Lock Delays:

Soft Reset the Lock

Perform a Soft Reset:

  • This simple action can resolve minor connectivity issues and will fix any potential Firmware bugs.

  1. Retract the Bolt.

  2. Remove the Battery Cover.

  3. Remove the Battery Tray.

  4. Keep the battery tray removed for 10 seconds.

  5. Reinsert the battery tray back into the compartment, ensuring it is securely seated and connected.

  6. Extend the bolt to the "locked" position.

  7. Retract it back to the "unlocked" position.

  8. If your lock is paired to the Schlage Home app or any other 3rd party app logout from the app and then log back in; the lock's data is stored in the cloud and will not be lost.

Restore the Cloud Connection

If the soft reset didn't resolve your latency issue the next step is to restore the lock's connection to the cloud.

  1. Open the Schlage Home app on your mobile device.

  2. Navigate to your lock and press the three dots next to its name.

  3. Select "Lock Settings" from the menu.

  4. Tap on "Wi-Fi Settings".

  5. Press "Select Different Network".

  6. Select your Wi-Fi from the list of networks

  7. Enter your Wi-Fi password

  8. Press "Connect Wi-Fi"
