If the computer does not recognize the SNAP programmer:
1) Check on the bottom toolbar for an icon with arrows and left click. This will bring up a box with items that use a USB port on the computer. There should only be one running for SNAP, If there are more, deactivate them.
2) Vista and Windows 7 does not allow hardware devices (like the SNAP programmer) to use the USB port in the same manner as Windows XP.
The SNAP requires SMS Express to "Disconnect" the USB port during data transfers and Vista/7 does not allow the software to perform this disconnect function. This is an issue with many hardware devices on the market (like Jump Drives, USB hard drives, etc) and is not just a SNAP issue.
Therefore, SNAP may not work on Windows 7 or Vista.
If the computer does recognize SNAP, it will not work as an iButton enroller into SMS Express. A Computer Interface Peripheral (CIP, P101203) must be used instead to enroll iButtons into SMS Express on Windows Vista/7.
3) Another option is to format the SNAP programmer. See 56347 for information on this procedure.
