Excessive wear on the latch caused by installation issues can create a condition where the lever will not be able to retract the deadlatch.
If the door and frame are not aligned the deadlatch can fall into the strike with the latch. When this happens it can create a bind on the latch requiring additional force to retract the latch due to the additional pressure put onto the latch. When this situation occurs some of the components of the lock can be damaged.
As this starts to occur the deadlatch will begin to show signs of wear. (see below)
If the door prep is not corrected continued use can damage other components.
