Always replace the NDE batteries (four AA) when a solid RED LED under the battery cover is observed.
When the NDE goes into critical battery status the NDE stops reading credentials and with a tamper active will display a solid RED LED under the battery cover.
When changing the batteries, and activating the tamper by removing the battery cover, the RED LED is turned on to fully discharge the NDE for new fresh battery power up.
Fully discharging during battery change with the LED ensures the NDE will read a new battery level with power up.
If you ever remove the NDE battery cover and see a solid RED LED it indicates the batteries must be replaced. The NDE is in critical battery mode, indicated with a Solid RED LED with active Tamper.
