1) What is the nature of the issue?
a. What has already been done to try to resolve the issue?
2) Products in use?
a. Readers
i. Brand? (Whose logo is on the front: XceedID, Schlage, Lenel, GE)
1. If Lenel or GE, they must contact the respective company for reader support.
ii. Model? (XF1050, XF1060-MF, XF1060-XX, XF1200, XF1500, XF1500, XF1550, XF1560, XF2100, XF2110P-K, XF2110, XF2200, XF2210)
iii. Firmware? (examples, but not limited to: X02_31, X04_31, X02_51, X04_51, X02_57, X04_57)
iv. Configuration? (examples, but not limited to: F00_05, E0-1, F12-2-0, E12-2)
b. Credentials
i. Brand? (common brands not limited to: XceedID, Schlage, HID)
ii. Model? (examples from XceedID/Schlage, but not limited to: XF7410, XF7510, XF7610, PRX1, PRX3, PF-1, IBF-110, XF9420, XF9520, IBF-151, XF9951, XF9440, XF9540, XF9640, XF8420, XF850, XF8920)
iii. Who encoded the card? (This is usually the manufacturer, but potentially the user or another third party could have)
iv. Card Technology? (Proximity, Smart (Mifare, Mifare EV1, ISOX, HID iClass))
3) Basic troubleshooting steps for many issues:
a. If an XceedID/Schlage Reader:
i. What color is the LED? (Easy one: If LED is Off or there is no LED present, this is usually an installation issue. Either the reader head is not affixed or there is not enough power being supplied to the reader.)
ii. What voltage is powering the reader? (Most of our readers will work ONLY between 6 and 16 VDC. Most commonly, a user tries supplying 5 VDC, which can cause random behavior)
iii. Is the wiring correct? Below is minimal required wiring.
· Green – D0
· White – D1
· Red - “+” VDC
· Black – “-“ ground
· Orange – Green LED control.
iv. Is this the right type of reader for the card? (Are they using a smart card on a prox reader or vice-versa? Are they using a proprietary (some HIDs or other third party) card?)
v. Does the reader have a special configuration that would alter expected behavior? (E401-1 makes the red LED FLASH instead of remain solid)
b. If an XceedID/Schlage Credential:
i. Is this the right type of credential for the reader? (A proximity card will not work on a smart-only reader, and vice versa)
ii. Does the customer have the access control system setup correctly for the encoding of the credential? (Facility Code, Bit Format, BadgeID/Hotstamp)
1. For a detailed explanation of credential data, see Understanding Stamped Information on XceedID / Schlage RFID Proximity and Smart Cards and Keyfobs .
iii. Is the issue a read range problem? (Keyfob credentials have shorter read ranges than cards, and certain technologies (Proximity, Mifare, Mifare EV1) have different read ranges than others.
