investigate: Lever Wobble Excessive on AD-Series Lock

MEASURE THE WOBBLE:

When the lever is pressed toward the door, measure the distance of the lever return from the door, then pull on the lever and take a new measurement of the lever return from the door.

If the difference is more than 1/4 inch (0.25), then the lever wobble is excessive.

Measurements that are equal to 1/4 inch or less is to be expected by design and no action is possible.

If you find the lever to wobble more than 1/4 inches, then the problem could be in one of two places ...  Spring cage assembly or the lever is too loose on the spindle.

DETERMINE THE CAUSE:

Remove the lever:

Inspect the spring cage and spindle assembly:

The spindel should be held firmly in place by the spring cage.

    • You should not see any movement with the spindle is pushed in and pulled out
    • The spindel shaft should not allow noticeable angular motion when pressed to the side

If the spring cage does not show noticeable movement, the lever to spindle interface is allowing excessive motion.

Updated levers and spring cages can be made available for replacement.
