The motorized M996L trim does operate slightly quieter than its solenoid-based E996L predecessor.
You will no longer hear the "click" of the solenoid, as the motor has smooth start and stop operation.
If audible feedback is needed to indicate the trim is unlocked, Von Duprin part # EB (Entry Buzzer) can be used for fail secure M996 trims.
Wire the EB in parallel with the M996 wiring, and place in the buzzer in the exit device mechanism case away from moving parts.
The buzzer will be audible both inside and outside the opening while the fail secure trim is powered (unlocked).
