Some lever designs by Schlage are handed such as Flair. Levers that are handed cannot be moved from the inside to the outside or vice versa because the direction of the lever changes. This creates a need for each lock to use a left hand and a right hand lever.
When a complete lock is ordered manufacturing provides the proper levers when the door handing is specified.
When just the lever is ordered the specific handing of the lever is needed, NOT the handing of the door.
For LH/LHR doors a LH lever is used on the outside and a RH is used on the inside.
For RH/RHR doors a RH lever is used on the outside and a LH is used on the inside.
If the incorrect hand of lever is used on a door, or if a handed lever is reversed in the field the lever will only be able to be installed upside down.
