How to remove the inside lever from the Schlage L9000 lock.

  • The lever is removed by unscrewing the lever bushing
    • See step 7 in the installation instructions showing how the lever is installed.
    • There is a small hole on the inside lever bushing to allow for a spanner wrench (PN: 021415) to be inserted.
    • Insert the spanner wrench into the small hole on the inside lever. Using the spanner wrench, rotate the bushing (counterclockwise) to remove the lever.
  • If the spanner wrench bends or otherwise will not rotate the bushing, then there may be corrosion between the bushing threads and mounting plate.
    • May need to use large channel type pliers to grasp the bushing and remove.
    • Apply a piece of rubber or similar between the pliers and the bushing to prevent marring the bushing.

NOTE: The outside lever is a part of the rose/escutcheon assembly. To remove the outside lever and rose/escutcheon assembly, the inside lever must first be removed, then the inside mounting plate and spring cage must be unsecured by removing the two mounting screws. Once this is done, the outside lever and rose/escutcheon assembly can be removed.
