1) RS-485 communication will NOT interfere with a new firmware update on an AD300. You do not need to disconnect the RS-485 wires from the AD300.
The AD300 will not be online and communicating with the Access Control Panel during the firmware update because the AD300 is busy loading new firmware from the HHD/SUS; so the ACP will indicate the AD300 is off-line during the FW update. At the end of the FW update the AD300 will automatically restore communication. A FW update on an AD300 will not change the RS-485 address.
2) You must have AD300 external power +12V or +24V applied at a) VIN & GND on the COM300 board or b) AUX power in on the AD300 main board.
The AD300 will not operate properly on AA batteries.
Steps to update firmware on an AD300.
A) Keep the VIN/GND or AUX power applied. The AD300 will not function properly on AA battery power.
B) Connect the SUS/HHD to the USB connector and push the AD300 Schlage key twice to connect.
The Schlage button will start blinking red when the AD300 is connected to the HHD/SUS, and the SUS will indicate connection
d) Couple the SUS/HHD if not already coupled, hold down the IPB button and push the tamper switch three times.
Caution: Depending on your ACP type, pushing the IPB can also tell the ACP to toggle the AD300 LOCKED/UNLOCKED.
e) Select the "Firmware Update" tab in the SUS/HHD and follow the SUS instructions.
f) After the FW update is complete, the SUS/HHD will display a "Firmware updated successfully" message.
If the AD300 is toggled unlocked, press the IPB again to lock
