How often should I replace the coin cell in an AD or CO Series lock?
Under normal circumstances (i.e., no prolonged loss of AA battery power), the coin cell should be good for the advertised shelf life of the battery, which is typically seven years.
The coin cell only is used when the AA batteries are not powering the Real Time Clock (RTC) circuits of the lock. If the AA batteries are removed, and the coin cell is not isolated from the electrical connection by the plastic mylar strip or by removal, the coin cell battery will be exhausted within 3 to 4 weeks, and would need to be replaced before the lock is restored to service.
Newer versions of firmware on offline locks have a configuration setting to disable the Low Battery Warning for the coin cell battery if the consumer chooses.
AD-400 and AD-300 locks do not require or use the coin cell battery since all time events are managed by the Access Control System.
