How far down can an exit device be cut down in the field?

For most exit devices, please refer to the specific device series catalog for minimum door opening width the device can be cut down to fit.

Be aware that some device options, frame conditions, and specific applications may affect this dimension.
For example, in the 98/99 Series catalog, it stated that a standard mechanical 3' device can be used on a 2'4" - 3' door opening width, while a 4' mechanical device can be used on a 2'10" - 4' door opening width.
Different options and application variables could affect those ranges.
Check the catalog page discussing the options involved to see how the range is affected.
