The magnetic flux per square inch on the magnetic lock face is too small to test magnetic pull strength with a small piece of metal such as a screwdriver. The maglock must be tested by using the armature that comes with the lock.
When the maglock and armature are correctly mounted and the magnet is energized, the armature will seat completely flush to the face of the maglock. You can apply up to the full pull force the lock is designed for i.e. 500 lbs, 1000 lbs or 1500 lbs, without the armature pulling away from the maglock, to test the magnetic pull strength.
Note: Some maglocks have an armature housing cover that includes a permanent magnet on the side that will trigger the maglock control board to energize the lock to draw the armature to the lock face. Please confirm all installation details with your maglock installation guide.
