How do you shorten or lengthen the vertical rod for a Von Duprin windstorm device (WS98/9927/-F or WS98/9957/-F)?

The WS windstorm device ships for a 7' door.  A 12-inch extension rod (# 051812) can be ordered for doors over 7' to 8'. 

To add the extension rod:

  1.  disconnect the vertical rod from the center case
  2.  remove the connector and pin from the vertical rod end that mates with the center case
  3.  attach the extension rod to the vertical rod using the coupling in the extension rod kit
  4.  reinstall the connector and pin to the end of the extension rod that will mate with the center case

To cut the vertical rod (for example, for a 6'8" door):

  1.  disconnect the vertical rod from the center case
  2.  remove the connector and pin from the vertical rod end that mates with the center case
  3.  cut the non-threaded end of the vertical rod (the end that mates with the center case)
  4. reinstall the connector and pin to the end of the rod that will mate with the center case
