How do I update my Schlage Encode lock’s firmware? (BE489, BE499. FE789)

Because the Schlage Encode locks have built-in WiFi connectivity, they will automatically receive firmware updates as they become available from Schlage as long as the lock is paired to your home WiFi network and managed by a compatible smart home app.

If you are managing your lock via the Schlage Home app, you may notice a small red dot on the gear/settings icon in the app to notify you as firmware updates become available. You can choose to update the firmware at that time. If no action is taken, the firmware will update automatically.

To check if the firmware is up-to-date the steps below can be done.

Press and Release Inside Push Button 5 times within 10 seconds.
If lock firmware version is older than the image in server > Lock will start firmware update
If lock firmware version is same as the image in server > Lock will acknowledge that firmware version is latest by a beep and blue check on the Keypad
