How do I remove the Schlage Custom Handleset trim?

Remove the knob or lever.
Then, for the two-piece handleset, use a small flat-blade screwdriver to pry the trim off the lock. There is a small slot below the hole for the screwdriver to fit into. Be careful not to scratch the door.

Note that your trim may look different if you installed the privacy pin on top.

For the one-piece handleset, you must first remove the deadbolt screws.

Then, the trim can be removed.
