How Do I Re-Key My Locks at home?

For security purposes, our products are not very easily rekeyed. We recommend ordering our locks keyed alike from vendors like build.com or your local hardware store. However, if you already own locks that you want to match, there are still options. You can bring your locks into your local hardware store or locksmith to get the locks rekeyed, or you can contact a locksmith who can come to your home and rekey the locks for you there. 

If you have the proper tools and knowledge, or if you have a self-rekeying kit, you can follow the steps in this guide to perform the rekey. If performing the rekey yourself, please note the following:

• Schlage support is not trained on how to rekey a cylinder. 
• Any damage incurred due to performing the rekey yourself will deem the warranty null and void.

We recommend that you take the lock to a professional to avoid any errors when reassembling the lock.

We produce four boxes of matching sets of locks that are all keyed-alike. On the top of the box, there is a number that says, "Match This Code: A123456". If you purchase multiple boxes with that same number, the locks will already be keyed the same. For added security, we do not store any key codes in our system. Thus, purchasing these keyed alike locks is the only way to get locks that are keyed alike. This also means we are unable to match the keying of replacement locks.

We do not currently offer a "smart key" rekeying option where a homeowner can rekey their locks themselves. Our locks are re-keyed traditionally using the necessary tools. However, with professional assistance, any of our locks can be keyed alike. This includes both mechanical and electronic locks.
