How do I install the shackle on a KS series padlock?

Below are the basic steps to installing the KS series shackle. For more detailed information, see service manual here. 
  1. Install shackle spring (2) (if removed). 
  2. Verify the ball bearings (3) are installed.
  3. Insert key and rotate to the "unlocked" position. 
  4. Position ball bearings (3), they should fit flush in the bearing receptacles.
  5. Insert shackle (1) completely (in locked position).
  6. Return key to home position and remove the key.
  7. Install the shackle mounting screw (5).
  8. Using key, check operation



Removing the KS Series padlock shackle is the opposite of installing.
  1. Using key, unlock the shackle (1). Unlocking the shackle prior to removing hex screw (Step 2 below) will prevent the shackle and spring from ejecting during removal process.
  2. Remove the shackle mounting screw (5) on the side of the padlock.
  3. Rotate the key to "unlocked" position and pull the shackle (1) out.
  4. Do not remove the shackle spring (2) or ball bearings (3) if replacing the shackle.
