Functional Differences Between KC and KC-2 Locks

  • Locks equipped with keypads can be identified as KC-2 by pressing the “*” key five (5) times. After the fifth keypress, KC-2 locks will respond by flashing the green LED twice. Older KC locks will not flash the LED.

  • KC-2 locks equipped with keypads can be reset to factory defaults by this method:
    • Removing a battery and holding the “*” key down while reinstalling the battery.

  • KC-2 locks do NOT have the following default codes:
    • 135135 Toggle
    • 9115 Freeze/Lockout

  • Battery voltage can be read on unprogrammed or manually programmed KC-2 locks equipped with keypads:
    • Enter: Programming Code * 11 **
    • The LEDs blink the voltage; red for volts, green for tenths of a volt. For example, 6 red blinks plus one green blink equals 6.1 volts.

Note that this feature does not work on computer-programmed locks, as manual programming functions are disabled.

  • KC-2 locks do not have a battery-backed real-time clock, and will begin to lose time after four (4) minutes of having the batteries removed.
