The XX Series crossbar exit device is obsolete. The recommended replacement is the Von Duprin 88 series. Von Duprin offers retrofit cover plates for that conversion (reference Von Duprin 88 Retrofit Plates for XX Installation Instructions).
Order kit 953002 when replacing an XX-R Rim Device with an 88 Rim Device.
Order kit 953001 when replacing an XX-M Mortise Device with an 8875 Mortise Device or when replacing an XX-V Surface Vertical Rod Device with an 8827 Surface Vertical Rod Device.
We do not have a Retrofit Plate kit to replace XX-C or XX-C-WDC devices with 8847-F devices because that would require much more modification of the door and would only be applicable on Hollow Metal doors.
Depending on the specific application, the 5547, 5547WDC, 5547-F, 5547WDC-F, or the 8847-F may be appropriate devices, but would likely require replacing or rebuilding the door to accommodate their use.
