Explanation of the ND series inside spring cages and lever removal.

The ND series offers three different inside spring cages for the ND series. 

  • N523-221 -  Inside spring cage for functions without cylinders (Example: ND10, ND50, ND50, ND70, ND80, ND80 electrified)
  • N523-222 - Inside spring cage for all cylinder (Schlage and competitor) with the exception of the Yale FSIC and Medeco FSIC
  • N523-225 -  Inside spring cage for Yale FSIC 6-pin (J-YA6), Yale FSIC 7-pin (J-YA7), Medeco 31 (J-YA6) and Medeco 32 (J-MED)


The N523-221 has a lower profile lever catch staking to allow for plunger bars (push button, push and turn button locking) and the motor on electrified ND.

The N523-222 and the N523-225 have a higher profile staking as a security feature that requires the key inserted and rotated on the cylinder to allow for inside lever removal on double cylinder functions, the same as for the outside lever on keyed functions.

If there is difficulty installing an inside spring cage on a electrified ND, check to be sure the correct spring cage (N523-221) is being used. 

If you can remove the inside lever of a double keyed function without a key, check to be sure the correct inside spring cage(s) is being used (N523-222 or N523-225).
