The Von Duprin Alarm Kit (ALK) and Falcon Exit Alarm (EA) ships with a 9-volt battery. It can be powered by the battery only. The ALK circuit board also has two input terminals for hardwiring 24VDC. In a hardwired scenario: the battery serves as battery backup; if no battery is installed the unit will still work, but there will simply be no battery backup function.
The hardwired option does not need to be specified when ordering the ALK or EA, it is a built in feature that can be used or not used based on the desired functionality.
