Did the Falcon Surface Vertical Rod Latch Covers change in 2019?
In late July 2019, the Latch Cover for Falcon 19-V, 24-V, and 25-V Series Surface Vertical Rod Devices changed to a wider footprint to match the shape of Von Duprin 98/9927 and 2227 Latch Covers.
At that time, an adapter bracket was added to the Falcon Latch to accommodate the wider cover and different cover screw location.
To facilitate this change, the Falcon Latch Cover Kit (650202 x finish) with the new cover will now include that adapter plate for use with an older top latch and a new bottom bolt guide for use with the bottom bolt. The bottom bolt guide is wider and has screw hole locations to match the post-July 2019 latch cover.
Note that if you are replacing one in a paired opening, you might want to replace both, or possibly all four covers in the opening so they match.
If replacing a top latch only and reusing the older cover, the adapter plate can be removed from the new top latch to mount the older cover.
