Did the arm screw, that attaches the arm to the closer body, on the LCN manual closers always attach from the top?

Back in the 60’s LCN arm screws were in the front of the arm not on top. These old arms could be used with newer closers but the new arms will not work on one of these older closers as the top of the shaft was solid on the older closers.

For reference, below is a photo of an old arm.  The green line is where the old arm screw was installed.
