Cannot Enter Programming Code

If you are unable to successfully enter your programming code and see a red light or red "X" on the keypad, this typically indicates an issue with the code being entered or the lock's power supply. Below are the possible causes and steps to resolve the issue.

This issue may occur with the following Schlage locks:

Common Causes and Solutions

1. Red Light or "X" on the 4th Digit:

A red "X" or red flash of the keypad after entering the 4th digit is an indication that you are entering an incorrect code.

Solution:

  • Double-check the default programming code found in the User Guide or on the Programming sticker (usually located on the inside of the lock or the packaging).

  • If you have changed the programming code, ensure you are entering the correct updated code.

2. Smart Lock Paired to the Schlage Home App or 3rd Party Device:

If your smart lock is paired with the Schlage Home app or a third-party device (e.g., a smart home hub), the pairing process deletes the programming code.

Solution:

  • Use the Schlage Home app or paired device to manage access codes and lock settings instead of relying on the keypad programming code.


3. Red Light with Every Button Press:

If you are getting a red light with every button press, this is an indication of a critically low battery.

Solution:

  • Replace the batteries with fresh ones to restore functionality. Ensure you use high-quality alkaline batteries.
